Landscaping & Environmental Works – Sétif Tramway Line, Algeria

Client: SNTF
Main Contractor: Yapı Merkezi A.Ş. – Alstom Consortium
Line Length: 15.2 km | 26 Stations + CDM Maintenance Workshop
Location: Sétif, Algeria

This project covers comprehensive landscaping and environmental works executed along the 15.2 km Sétif tramway line, including 26 stations and the CDM maintenance workshop, delivered under the Yapı Merkezi – Alstom Consortium for SNTF. The works were completed as part of the urban integration of the tramway system and inaugurated on 8 May 2018 in front of the Sétif Provincial Government Building.

The scope primarily focused on green infrastructure and planting works, forming the core of the project. Approximately 49,000 m² of grassing (engazonnement) was carried out along the line, complemented by the placement of over 6,300 m³ of vegetal soil (including 5,304 m³ for general landscaping areas and 1,060 m³ for planting beds), ensuring long-term soil fertility and plant sustainability.

A large-scale tree and shrub planting program was implemented, involving several thousand imported plant units. This included a wide variety of species such as Platanus orientalis, Tilia tomentosa, Catalpa bignonioides, Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Umbraculifera’, Acer negundo ‘Flamingo’, Cupressus sempervirens ‘Stricta’, as well as ornamental trees and flowering species. In total, the works covered high-canopy trees, ornamental trees, shrubs, and ground-cover plants, carefully selected to meet climatic conditions and urban design requirements.

The landscaping works significantly enhanced the visual quality, environmental performance, and urban comfort of the tramway corridor and maintenance areas. This project demonstrates strong expertise in large-scale urban landscaping, environmental integration of rail infrastructure, and complex planting operations, contributing to the sustainable transformation of Sétif’s public transport environment.
